Shingles built for Colorado hail.
Class 4 impact-resistant shingles pass the toughest UL 2218 hail test. On the Front Range they are the best balance of protection, cost, and resale value, and many insurers discount for them.
Class 4 is the Front Range standard.
UL 2218 is the industry hail test: steel balls of increasing size are dropped on a shingle sample and the shingle is rated Class 1 through Class 4 by whether it cracks. Class 4 shingles pass a 2-inch steel ball impact; Class 3 pass a 1.25-inch test. For a region that sees golf-ball hail most summers, Class 4 is the one we recommend.
In Colorado, standard asphalt shingles typically last 15 to 20 years. Class 4 impact-resistant shingles last 20 to 30. The higher UV exposure at altitude and the freeze-thaw swings age every roof faster here, so the extra durability is not a luxury.
Many Colorado insurers offer premium discounts of 5% to 35% for a documented Class 4 roof. We provide the product documentation your agent needs to apply the discount, and we register the manufacturer warranty when the job closes.

Class 4 Impact-Resistant Shingles questions
Yes, under UL 2218, but they pass a smaller 1.25-inch test. For Colorado's hail we recommend Class 4, which passes the 2-inch test.
Check your original invoice, HOA records, or manufacturer paperwork for the shingle model and look up its UL 2218 class. No records? We confirm the rating for free during an inspection.
Many Colorado carriers discount 5% to 35% for Class 4 roofs. The discount and its paperwork vary by carrier, so ask your agent and we will supply the documentation.
Typically a modest premium over standard architectural shingles on the same roof. The longer service life and the insurance discount usually pay that back.
